SASOLBURG. – According to the acclaimed American Author Mark Twain: “Golf is a good walk spoiled.”
After witnessing this weekend’s Free State Senior Mens Open played at Heron Banks Golf Club the conclusion can be made that this statement only applies to mere mortals without any hand eye coordinatrion.
The Open ended in spectacular fashion on Sunday afternoon with a three way playoff Gerhard Strydom (144: 74-70), Steve Wiliams (144: 75-69) and Rurik Gobel (144: 72-72).
Over the two days Williams was the most consistant and carded a 72 on both days, but the playoff was won on the 17th by Strydom of the Waterkloof Golf Club.
This is not the first and definitely nor the last time that Heron Banks will host an important tournament. The club has hosted the Ladies Free State Open, Senior Free State Open, Northern Free State Open, Junior Free State Open and Fidelity Senior Tour Pro Am with distinction.
According to Rob Lance, Director of Golf at Heron Banks, there are some interesting prospect on the horizon. For the complete results of the Free State Senior Mens Open, visit www.saga.co.za.
